colleague who had passed on the day before. "I
understand," observed one, "that our friend T -- left

"It would not be otherwise," replied his friend. "He had

introduced to a man from Edinburgh who asked him, "An'

"The greatest country in the world!" replied the
American. "Mon! So dae," replied Sandy, "but you dinna
speak like a Scotsman."
128. An aged woman, born and nurtured in the South, was
endeavoring to impress upon her nephews and nieces the
beauties of the South and its people, when one of the
young men spoke up.
"Auntie," he asked, "do you think that all of the
virtues originated and have been preserved by the
Southern people?"
"No, not all, but most of them," she replied.
"Do you think that Jesus Christ was a Southerner?" asked
the young man.
The old lady hesitated a moment and then said: "He was
good enough to be a Southerner!"
